Dark Clouds Closing in on American Liberty
People with a dictatorial mindset have always been sociopolitical opportunists. Before the current COVID-19 coronavirus crisis, the Flee from Christian Fundamentalism blog predicted that some people in the Trump administration would be on the lookout for grand opportunities to suspend the constitutional rights of the American people. In any democracy or representative republic with a written constitution, this is always the major first step into dictatorship. Pesky things those old constitutions!
Yesterday, I took my eight-hour sleep period right after the Trump press conference on the national COVID-19 fight. I awakened to a stark but not too unexpected surprise. As Gomer Pyle used to say:

Talk about the crown jewel of sociopolitical opportunities for would-be despots!!! Talk about a Trumpian dream come true!!!
The current national emergency could last as long as 18 months, which is the maximum expected time to get COVID-19 viral infections under complete control. With the suspension of key constitutional rights, the wrong kinds of people in high governmental places could find ways to extend the emergency for—-what—-50 years—-100 years—-150 years—-1000 years. Oh!!! The glorious Trumpfsreich—the new thousand year Reich—but hey—why put any limit on it Mr. Despot. Why not go for the three highest aspirations of all despots—-perpetual youth, eternal life on Earth, and infinity in office? World history and an old song by the Talking Heads tell us what such despots are really like at heart:
After seeing reports like the one above by Peter Wade, I retain my personal and quite strong suspicions that powerful Christian Reconstructionist, Dominionist, and Theonomic elements in our nation have a straight line path to the ear of Attorney General William Barr. God only knows what that pack of ravening wolves (Christian Fundamentalist and Conservative Evangelical celebrity preachers) is whispering into Trump’s ears at those prayer circles in the White House. Trump could be getting the Christian Reconstructionist message in stereo from them in one ear and from Attorney General Barr in the other ear.
Please write to your two U.S. Senators and your Congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives and voice your strong opposition to any and all suspensions of American constitutional rights during the current COVID-19 crisis. Tell them that the U.S. Constitution and its Bill of Rights are precious to you—–sacred—–untouchable.
