Abortion: Today Is the Big Day

Today is THE BIG DAY for every Christian fundamentalist and conservative evangelical in the United States.  It is the last day in the 2015-2016 session of the U.S. Supreme Court, and the high court is scheduled to make its HUGE ruling on abortion.

For several decades the fundies failed to put an end to all abortions at the federal level of government—and finally quit—convinced it was a hopeless endeavor. They soon hit upon a new plan to take their anti-abortion fight to the grassroots state and local levels of government, believing Boss Hog cronyism and good ole boy politics would give them a much better chance of ending all abortions.

The fundies then formulated an anti-abortion strategy for the state and local levels.  The core of this strategy was ONE HUGE WHOPPER OF A LIE.  This lie was to claim that abortion clinics needed to meet much higher state health and safety standards to protect the health and lives of women during and immediately after abortions. In fact, they would make these abortion clinic standards so high, so tough, so rigid, and so hard to meet that most or all abortion clinics in each of the 50 states would be eventually forced to go out of business. With no abortion clinics available in the states, women would no longer be able to get an abortion—and Roe Vs. Wade and abortion itself would be functionally dead—although not legally dead.  But who would care?  Dead is dead—no matter how you got there.

Does anyone remember intelligent design?  It was supposed to be a new and purely scientific theory that would supplant evolutionary science in public school classrooms—and the future exchange station would be U.S. District Court somewhere in the United States. However, the fundies forgot one key thing.  If you are going to tell ONE HUGE WHOPPER OF A LIE like “intelligent design is real science,” everyone in Fundieland who is a party to the lie—everyone without exception—has to keep their mouth shut about the fact that it is a lie.  Nonetheless, word of the lie got out via fundie “babblers,” both by mouth and in printed documents.  Intelligent design was really just classic creation science in disguise—a slick repackaging ruse to sneak creationism through the back door and into public school science classrooms.  This all happened before the case went to federal court. The lawyers for the traditional science plaintiffs got wind of it all and ruined the whole intelligent design effort.  The Kitzmiller vs. Dover Area School District ruling against intelligent design in U.S. District Court shot a bullet straight into the brain of this fundie lie and killed it dead as Old Marley’s doornail.  The fundies learned their lesson and learned it well.

The fundies—most all of them—learned to keep their mouths shut and their typing fingers stationary prior to the assorted U.S. District Court trials on state regulation of abortion clinics. They were kept tight as the proverbial drum going into the various trials—all to preserve the ONE HUGE WHOPPER OF A LIE that the primary purpose of the state regulations on abortion is to protect the health and lives of women—and that alone.  Even the assorted, average, everyday, anti-abortion blog commenters on Maple Street toed the party line—for the most part.

This is very important.  We would like you (our readers) to read and listen to the news about the ruling today if it goes against the ONE HUGE WHOPPER OF A LIE the fundies have told about state regulation of abortion clinics.  The thing you will need to do is go to the various news services and on-line news venues where the results of the court ruling are reported and discussed. Notice the quoted statements of the anti-abortion people in the news stories and read the many reader comments at the bottoms of the news articles. If the ruling goes against the fundies, which one of the following are the fundies saying in the aftermath of the ruling:

(1)   We had this wonderful opportunity to protect the health and lives of women—and failed.

(2)    We had this wonderful opportunity to put an end to all or nearly all abortions in the United States—and failed.

If most of the fundies are saying No. 2, then you will know for certain that the fundies were doing one of the things fundies do best—TELL ONE HUGE WHOPPER OF A LIE to get what they want.  Here is some scripture:

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. (Revelation 21:8)

A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.  (Proverbs 19:5)

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. (Exodus 20:2-17)

No one knows for sure how the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on abortion will go later today. It is anyone’s guess, and we are not going to make a prediction here on that final outcome.  Nonetheless, we will say this.  If it does go against the fundies, it will be a massive, thundering defeat that far exceeds the gravity of the gay marriage ruling last summer.  Late today and in the following days, look for great wailing; gnashing of teeth; and powerful moanings about “whatever shall become of us fundies, all is now lost, and let the mountains fall down upon us and crush our sorrow over the great power and influence we have lost in American society and culture. Oh-h-h-h-h-h!!!!   Woe is us!!!!  Woe to the world!!!!”  You know—the usual whining, self-serving bullshit.
